Tamim among 3 militant suspects killed in police shooting

The police killed three militant suspects including the alleged Gulshan attack mastermind Tamim Chowdhury in Narayanganj on Saturday morning.
According to police officials, a team of counter terrorism and transnational unit conducted the drive in plainclothes in Paikpara Baro Masjid area of Narayanganj.
The inspector general of police, AKM Shahidul Hoque, and also counter-terrorism unit chief Monirul Islam confirmed the death of Tamim Chowdhury.
The police could not immediately give the identity of the two other persons, also suspected to be militants, who were killed during the operation.
Tamim Chowdhury, a Bangladeshi-Canadian citizen, was earlier named as the mastermind of the Gulshan attack that killed 22, mostly foreigners, on 1 July.
On Saturday, local people first heard gunshot at about 9:30am. Later, several gunshots were heard along with the sound of a huge explosion.
The counter-terrorism unit team, joined by SWAT, Rapid Action Battalion personnel and the Narayanganj police, cordoned off a three-story building and carried out the operation. It took almost an hour to complete the operation.
The Narayanganj police sealed the entire area during the police operation.
