Army joins SWAT, police for Sylhet anti-militant 'operation'

A team of joint forces, comprising members from Army, SWAT and police, preparing for an 'operation' at a suspected militant hideout at a five-storey residential building in Shibbari area of Sylhet city.

Earlier in the evening, members of SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics), specialised law enforcement agency, joined the police and cordoned off the reported militant den under South Surma police station.

Sylhet police commissioner Md Golam Kibria said Army has joined the team along with the SWAT and police members and that is preparing for an operation.

Sylhet city police station officer-in-charge Aktar Hossain also said police is planning an operation after the SWAT team arrived in the area.

At 2:30am on Friday, the law enforcers launched the raid. Police assumed that suspected militants are hidden on the ground floor of the five-storey building.
