Dhaka University proctor professor AKM Golam Rabbani on Monday said he was not informed of the attacks carried out by members of ruling Awami League's student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on quota reform activists on the campus.

He said this while answering questions from newsmen at his DU office around 1:00 in the afternoon.

BCL activists allegedly attacked quota reform activists when the latter formed a human chain on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar on Monday morning.

Witnesses said the BCL activists beat up the quota reformists and dispersed them. They added that two of the quota reform activists were undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

BCL publicity secretary Saif Babu, school student affairs secretary Joynal Abedin and Dhaka University’s Haji Mohammad Mohsin Hall general secretary Mehedi Hassan Sunny, according to the witnesses, were among the attackers.

The quota protesters held the human chain programme protesting at another attack on their fellow demonstrators on Sunday.

Asked about the 'BCL attacks', DU proctor AKM Golam Rabbani told the newsmen that he was not informed about these attacks.

"You have to know about those who laid siege to DU Central Library to observe their programmes when DU's academic activities were off," he added.

The DU proctor, however, declined to reply when he was asked whether the quota reform activists were damaging the academic atmosphere of Dhaka University.
