A group of youths and members of the law enforcement launched an attack on the demonstrating students demanding 'safe road' in the city's Mirpur-14 on Thursday afternoon.

Policemen started charging baton on the students around 4:00pm and then a group of young men joined the cops and together they chased the students, a student of Shaheed Police Smrity College told Prothom Alo.

Being chased, the protesting students took position at Mirpur-10. They alleged that police and local youths wearing helmet were trying to disperse them from the streets. They, however, were still staying on the road.

Students of different schools and colleges took to the streets for the fifth consecutive day on Thursday, demanding punishment of those responsible for Sunday’s road accident that killed two of their fellows.

On Sunday, Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College, were killed as a ‘Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan’ bus ploughed through some students in front of Airport Road.
