Civil society demands safe road

Different civil society organisations on Friday formed a human chain to press home their 21-point demand, including punishment of those responsible for the death of two college students in the city’s airport road area on 29 July.

The organisations, including Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA), Nagorik Odhikar Songrokkhon Forum, Doctors of Health and Environment and Work for a better Bangladesh Trust under the banner of Nagorik Samabesh formed the human chain in front of National Museum in Shahbagh intersection area around 11:00am.

Their other demands include—providing compensation to the families of the deceased and ensure treatment of those injured in the accident, stopping torture on students during their ongoing agitation programme, amendment to Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1983, stopping plying of vehicles on wrong route, identifying fake licence holders and taking action against them, stopping operation of unfit vehicles and forming a supervision committee for monitoring the transport sector.
