University students block Shahbagh

Thousands of university students on Sunday blocked Shahbagh intersection protesting against Saturday's attacks on school and college students in Jhigatola during their demonstrations demanding safe roads, reports UNB. 

Students of Dhaka University, Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Bangladesh University of Science of Technology (BUET) started gathering at the intersection around 11:00am and blocked the road, disrupting vehicular movement.
When a procession of the students reached Jhigatola, police lobbed teargas shells to disperse them around 1:00pm.
Students also took position in Uttara House Building area, protesting against the attacks around 12:00pm.
Besides, students of East-West University took position in Rampura Bridge area around 1:00pm.
Meanwhile, students of Shahjalal University of Science of Technology (SUST) enforced strike on Sunday protesting against Saturday's attacks on students at Jhigatola.
As per the previous announcement, the students gathered at the main gate of the university around 8:00am.
The protesting students locked the main gate of the university around 10:00am, halting vehicular movement inside the campus.
Eleven students were arrested from the campus, said Dibangshu Paul, second officer of Jalalabad police station.
Later, BCL acting president Ruhul Amin and general secretary Imran Khan expressed their solidarity with the students.
The Bangladesh Chhatra League unit of SUST extended their support to the strike.
The students, who were managing the traffic at Jhigatola intersection and Mirpur in the capital, came under attack on Saturday which left an unspecified number of students injured.
