Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa principal SM Siraj Ud Daula reportedly confessed before a court in Feni on Sunday that he ordered the murder of Nusrat Jahan Rafi for his arrest in a sexual harassment case, reports UNB.

He gave ‘confessional’ statement before the court of senior judicial magistrate Md Zakir Hossain from 3:00pm to 9:00pm, said special superintendent of Chattogram division Police Bureau of Investigation Mohammad Iqbal.

In his confession, the principal reportedly told the court that when Nur Uddin and Shahadat Hossain Shamim met him in jail, he asked them to create pressure on Nusrat to withdraw the case filed against him for sexually harassing her.

He also directed them to burn the madrasa student to death if she did not give in to their pressure and make it appear that she committed suicide.

With this, nine accused have so far given confessional statements over the murder.

Earlier, Nur Uddin, Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Umme Sultana Popy alias Shampa, Kamrunahar Moni, Jabed Hossain, Abdur Rahim alias Sharif, Hafez Abdul Quader and Jobayer Ahmed confessed to their part in the murder.

On 6 April, Nusrat was set afire at an examination centre of Alim examination allegedly by students loyal to principal Siraj Ud Daula after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as Rafi had accused him of sexually harassing her.

After fighting for her life for five days, Nusrat succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital on 10 April.
