AL factional clash leaves several bullet-hit

Eight people, including three policemen, were injured as two factions of ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL) engaged in yet another clash over establishing supremacy in city's Lalkhan Bazar area on Saturday, reports UNB.

Nurul Absar, sub-inspector of Khulshi police station, said there had been longstanding feud between the supporters of Didarul Alam Masum, secretary of AL’s local ward unit, and Abul Hasnat Belal, a leader of Swechhasebok League's local unit, over establishing supremacy in the area.

Two factions engaged in a conflict on Saturday evening and exchanged gunfire that left five people injured critically.

Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control by firing bullets and teargas, said officer-in-charge of Khulshi police station Pranab Chowdhury.

All the injured except one sustained bullet injuries, he added.

Injured -- Monir Hossain, 40, Sohel, 23, Suman, 18 and Emon, 17 -- are undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Three policemen were also injured in the clash, added the OC.

However, two leaders blamed each other for the conflict.
