Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has indicated that the age limit for entry into government job may not be raised to 35 years from existing 30.

A section of students have been demonstrating for a long time to increase the age limit.

But, the prime minister at a press briefing at her Ganabhaban residence on Monday refuted thie demand by presenting statistics from three BCS examinations which indicate that the comparatively younger students are doing well.

While 23-25 years old student passed 40.70 per cent in the 35th BCS exams, pass rate of 27-29 years old was only 13.17 per cent. Pass rate was as low as 3.45 per cent for students more than 29 years old, the prime minister said.

In the 36th BCS, pass rate of 23-25 years old was 37.45 per cent while it was 14.89 per cent for 27-29 years of old and only 3.23 per cent for more than 29 years old students.

In 38th BCS, only 0.61 per cent students of over 29 years of old passed

“It’s easy to launch any movement but you have to think whether it’s logical or not. I’ve talked with PSC chairman regarding this issue and got this statistics. Now it’s up to you to decide whether the demand of increasing age limit is rational,” Sheikh Hasina said.

She also said students are now completing their post-graduation studies within 23 years of old since no university of the country experienced session jam in last decade.
