12 sentenced to death for Kishoreganj murder

A tribunal here on Monday sentenced 12 people to death for killing a man in Kishoreganj in 2015, reports UNB.

The condemned convicts are-Mahabubur Rahman Bhuiya, Mozammel Haque Bhuiya, Afzal Bhuiya, Nayan Bhuiya, Bhulon Bhuiya, Ruhul Amin, Emdadul Haque, Shipon Mia, Sultana Akter, Delwar Hossain, Bidhan Sannashi and Nilufa Akter of Bajitpur upazila in Kishoreganj district.

Of them, Sultana, Selwar, Bidhan and Nilufa were tried in absentia. The tribunal also fined the convicts Tk 20,000 each.

Besides, it sentenced two others-Tasnima Akter and Shamim alias Foysal bin Ruhul -to one year imprisonment each in the case.

According to the prosecution, Mobarak Hossain Bhuiya, an assistant of a lawyer of Dhaka session judge court , was killed by the convicts following enmity over the ownership of a piece of land in Bajitpur upazila of Kishoreganj on 22 October, 2015.

Later, victim's brother advocate Mozammel Hossain Bhuiya filed a case against 15 people with Bajitpur police station.

Makbul Hossain Mollah, investigation officer of the case, submitted a chargehseet against 15 people on 2 January, 2017.

After examining the records and 31 witnesses, Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 judge Manir Kamal handed down the verdict acquitting an accused in the case as allegation brought against him could not be proved.
