Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Shafiqul Islam on Thursday said everybody should abide by the traffic rules to bring discipline on roads, reports UNB.

“If we fail to bring discipline on roads as per the Road Transport Act 2018, we will have no way left. And if the students take to the street again, transport owners, workers or police- everyone will have their skin off,” he said.

He said this while speaking at the inaugural programme of the fortnightly traffic awareness programme at Rajarbagh Police Lines.

The DMP chief also said everybody should come forward to bring discipline on roads.
“The mind-set of going first while driving should be changed,” he added.

Addressing the drivers, he said, “If someone dies because of you, who will look after the victim’s family and children? If any driver dies due to traffic chaos, who will stand by his family?”

“We’ll talk to people from all professions about the discipline on roads in the next 15 days and this is the last chance we have,” Shafiqul said.

He also said police would talk to the authorities of all 151 CNG stations in the city and ask them not to give fuel or gas to those who violate the directives.

All the rickshaw-pullers will be provided with uniforms after dividing the city in some traffic zones, the DMP commissioner said.
