Padma Bridge to be opened for vehicles in next June: Quader

Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader Tuesday said the much-awaited Padma multipurpose bridge will be opened for vehicular movement in next June, reports BSS.

"Ninety-six per cent of bridge’s main works have already been completed and the overall progress of the project is around 90.50 per cent," Quader, also general secretary of the ruling Awami League, told journalists after a view-exchange meeting with different bridges division officials this morning.

Bridges division secretary M Manjur Hossen was also present at the meeting. The minister said 80 per cent construction works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman tunnel beneath the river Kornophuli in Chattogram also has been completed.

"We are working to complete the project by December this year," he added.

Of the three-phases of Dhaka elevated expressway, Quader said about 787.50 per cent works of the first phase of the expressway has already been completed, adding that working progress of Banani-Maghbazar part of the express way is 31 per cent.

The minister instructed the officials concerned to further speed up the work of the project.
