Transcom Group chairman Latifur Rahman passes away

Renowned businessman and chairman of Transcom Group, Latifur Rahman, has died.

He breathed his last in Chauddagram, Cumilla on Wednesday morning. He was 75.

According to his family, his body will be brought to Dhaka and the namaz-e-janaza will be held at Azad Masjid in Gulshan after Esha prayers. He will be then buried at Banani graveyard.

He is survived by his wife, son and two daughters.

Latifur Rahman was born in Jalpaiguri, India on 28 August 1945. In his early years he lived in Gandaria, Dhaka.

He was the managing director of Mediastar Ltd., publisher of daily Prothom Alo.

He studied at St. Francis School and then at St. Edmund’s School in Shillong, India. He was a student of Saint Xavier’s College in Kolkata. In 1965, he returned to Dhaka and the next year joined at W Rahman Jute Mill as a trainee. After one and a half year he became an executive there and worked till 1971.

Latifur Rahman is an honouree of Oslo Business for Peace Award 2012, an award known as the Nobel in business sector. Over 10,000 people are employed at his Transcom Group.
