The price of gold has increased in the domestic market following a rise in prices in the global market. The price of good-quality, or 22-carat, gold has increased by Tk 5,482 per bhori today, Saturday.

The new price came into effect at 10am today, Saturday. The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS), the organisation of gold traders, announced the decision to increase the price in a notice at 10:00 am today.

BAJUS said the new prices were adjusted due to a rise in the price of tezaabi gold in the local market.

Although the organisation cited the rise in the price of tezaabi gold in the local market as the reason for the increase, the decision was mainly driven by the rise in gold prices in the global market.

Following the latest increase, the price of one bhori of 22-carat gold, considered good quality, has risen to Tk 246,110 from today; 21-carat gold to Tk 235,030; 18-carat gold to Tk 201,845; and gold under the traditional method to Tk 164,812.

Before today’s increase, the price of gold was as follows: 22-carat gold was Tk 240,628 per bhori; 21-carat gold Tk 229,781; 18-carat gold Tk 197,355; and gold under the traditional method Tk 161,196.

Earlier, the price of gold was increased on 20 August. On that day, the price rose by a maximum of Tk 3,849 per bhori.

The highest-ever price of gold in the domestic market was Tk 286,000. On January 29 this year, the price of gold reached an all-time high in the country. That morning, the price jumped by Tk 16,213 per bhori to Tk 286,000.

Meanwhile, the price of silver has also increased alongside gold. The price of good-quality, or 22-carat, silver has increased by Tk 175 per bhori.

As a result, the price of one bhori of silver has risen to Tk 5,482 from today, Thursday. The price of 21-carat silver has increased to Tk 5,249 per bhori.
