Grameenphone reports 8pc revenue growth in 2019

Buoyed by data and voice growth, Bangladesh’ leading mobile phone operator, Grameenphone reported revenue of Tk. 143.70 billion for 2019, registering an 8.1 per cent annual growth, reports BSS.

During the year, the operator’s data revenue grew up by 17 per cent while voice revenue by 8.5 per cent, according to a financial disclosure released on Tuesday.

In the fourth quarter (Q4) it reported Tk 36.20 billion revenue growth which was 4.2 per cent higher than the same period of last year.

Grameenphone acquired 700,000 new subscribers in Q4 which pushed total subscribers base to 76.5 million at the end of 2019, a 5.1 per cent growth year over year.

Besides, 40.6 million or 53.1 per cent of the total subscribers of Grameenphone are now using internet services.

“We witnessed healthy growth in data revenue and data usage,” said Michael Patrick Foley, CEO of Grameenphone.

“We want to reiterate our commitment towards meaningful consultations between our industry and our government that can enrich our service propositions and facilitate the current growth momentum of country,” he added.

Net profit after taxes (NPAT) for the fourth quarter was Tk 9.20 billion, with 25.4 per cent margin. Earnings per share (EPS) for the period stood at Tk. 6.81.

“We experienced a solid growth despite aggressive competition in data and seasonality challenges during this quarter,” said Jens Becker, CFO of Grameenphone.

He said, “We are also happy to announce that the Board of Directors has recommended a final dividend of Tk. 13.00 per share for our honorable shareholders.”
