Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation (BHBFC) is going to offer 9 per cent interest for Dhaka and Chattogram areas instead of existing 9.5 per cent.

“A proposal in this regard is awaiting approval of the finance ministry. After the approval, the new rate will be effective from July this year. But, the existing rate of 8.5 per cent for the areas outside Dhaka and Chattogram will not change,” BHBFC managing director Debasish Chakrabarty told BSS on Thursday.

For eliminating the classified loan, he said, the existing borrowers will also enjoy the new rate if they clear all dues of instalments. “So, I call upon all defaulters to clear their dues and enjoy the new rate of interest,” he added.

He said the government has also proposed 9 per cent interest for purchasing ready flats which was 10 per cent earlier.

The managing director said BHBFC is offering seven types of products to take the services of the corporation to all classes of people.

The products are Nagar Bondhu, Nagar Bondhu Falt, Palli Ma, Abasan Unnyan Reen, Abashan Meramat Reen, Probash Bondhu and Krishak Abashan Reen.

Debasish Chakrabarty said BHBFC has increased the ceiling of all products for covering more people across the country.

Now, he said, a person can take loan of maximum Taka one crore of Dhaka and Chattogram areas which was Taka 5 million earlier and maximum Taka 6 million for the others areas which was Taka 4 million.

He said the trend of loan disbursement and recovery is upward since the BHBFC is providing all sorts of efforts to take the loan facilities to the grassroots level.

BHBFC has disbursed Tk 3.6002 billion in 2017-18 fiscal which was Tk 2.7851 billion in 2016-17 fiscal and Tk 2.4798 billion in 2015-16 fiscal, he said.

Debasish Chakrabarty said the disbursement of loans outside Dhaka and Chattogram areas is also rising as BHBFC disbursed Tk 2.2.67 billion in 2017-18 fiscal in those areas which was 1.6752 billion in 2017-18 fiscal and Taka 1.3812 billion in 2016-17 fiscal.

He said BHBFC has also opened a helpdesk for giving information and solving problems of the customers.
