Farida Parveen, a renowned Lalon Geeti singer, has been awarded this year’s Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal by the University of Dhaka, reports UNB.

The university’s vice-chancellor professor Md Akhtaruzzaman handed the award, named after the legendary singer Feroza Begum, to Farida Parveen at a programme held at Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban at DU.

The programme was organised by Dhaka University’s Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal Trust Fund, to mark the 93rd birthday of the singer.

Additionally, the vice-chancellor presented a gold medal to Khandakar Onika Islam for her result in the 2018 BSS examination, from the Music department of the university.

The university’s treasurer Kamal Uddin chaired the programme.

Professor Abu Md Delwar Hossain, dean of the Faculty of Arts; the sponsor of the trust fund, also the chairperson of ACI Foundation M Anis Ud Dowla; Tumpa Samadder, chairperson of the Music department, and family members of Feroza Begum, among others, were present at the event.

Vice-chancellor professor Akhtaruzzaman remembered the late artiste and said she greatly contributed to spreading knowledge of Nazrul Sangeet abroad.
