‘Manik Mia Avenue to be car-free on first Fridays’

Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader has said capital’s Manik Mia Avenue will be free of cars once in a month.

And, the selected day is the first Friday of every month.

The minister made the statement at an event arranged to mark the World Car Free Day 2017 on Friday.

Addressing the programme arranged by Dhaka Transport Cooperation Authority along with other organisations, he said, “Writing on newspaper or delivering nice speeches won’t work. We have to realise the importance of Car Free Day.”

Obaidul Quader also said, “After a discussion, we have decided to keep Manik Mia Avenue free of cars on the first Friday of every month.”

The event held at Manik Mia Avenue featured drawing competition, chess, kite flying, skating, cycling, and a discussion to create public awareness about road safety.
