Russell Viper, a rare species of venomous snake, has been rescued in Charfashion upazila.

Being informed by locals, forest department workers rescued the snake on Wednesday from a firewood shop located near Ilsha Ferrighat area at Ilsha union in Sadar upazila, said range officer of Bhola coastal forest department Md Kamrul Islam.

The snake has been kept under the custody of the forest department and it will be released in Kukri Mukri reserve forest on Friday, he said.

Mentioning Russell Viper as a rare species of snake Farid Mia, divisional forest officer, said that it lives mainly in forests of Northern area.

Russell Viper's name in Bangla is Chandrabora, he added.
