Cyclone Amphan hits Bangladesh coastline
The powerful cyclone Amphan made landfall on the Bangladesh coastline with 160-180 kph wind speeds at its centre around 4:00pm on Wednesday.
The cyclone Amphan would cross over Bangladesh’s Satkhira and Khulna region between 4:00pm and 8:00pm, Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s director Samsuddin Ahmed told Prothom Alo.
He also said the wind speeds of the cyclonic storm will gradually fall during the time.
At 3:00pm on Wednesday, as per the Met Office’s special bulletin, the cyclone was centered about 420 km southwest of Chattogram port, 430 km south-west of Cox's Bazar port, 200 km southwest of Mongla port and 250 km Southwest of Payra port.
Earlier it said Amphan is set to make landfall on the coast this afternoon or evening, with 200 kph to 220 kph wind speeds at its centre.
The maritime ports of Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist great danger signal number 10 while Chattogram and Cox's Bazar have been advised to hoist great danger signal number 9.
