The government has formed four bodies to probe the damage to the Sundarbans, caused by the cyclone Amphan that hit the coastal region on Wednesday night, reports UNB.
Environment, forest and climate change minister Md Shahab Uddin confirmed the matter and said the committees were formed under the leadership of range officers of assistant forest conservator posts.
The minister came up with the remarks while talking to the reporters through a video conference on Thursday.
The committees were asked to submit their reports within three working days and measures will be taken after getting the reports, he said.
According to primary reports more than 10 wooden jetty, tin shed of 30 staff barracks were damaged, moreover salted water entered into more than 60 ponds of forest department due to high stream of the sea, the minister said.
Among the plans of the Sundarbans, Kewra plans sustained the biggest destruction, Uddin said adding that the broken trees of the forest won't be removed as is (Sundarbans) would recover through natural process.
"Only damaged infrastructures will be overhauled and the salinity of the ponds will be removed. We'll also excavate new ponds if necessary," the minister said.
Meanwhile, twelve people have been killed and three others injured as cyclone 'Amphan' slams different coastal districts of the country on Wednesday evening.
