Eight zebras, rescued from Jashore's Sharsha upazila early Wednesday, have been sent to Banghabandhu Safari Park in Gazipur following a court order, reports UNB.

Detective branch of police handed over the zebras to the forest department in Khulna around 12:00am on Thursday. Later, the forest department sent the zebras to the safari park, said Raju Ahmed, forest inspector of Khulna.

DB police rescued the nine zebras which were kept there to smuggle those to the neighbouring country, said Maniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of DB.

The zebras were brought from Africa in box cartoons and kept at the cattle-shed of one Nur Hossain Tutu.

One zebra died after being rescued around 9:30am.

Being informed, an eight-member forest department team came to the spot.

Later, on Wednesday, a Jashore court ordered to send the zebras to the Safari Park.
