BJP leader Amit Shah infected with COVID-19, admits to hospital

India’s union home minister Amit Shah has been tested positive for coronavirus, which has already infected over 1.7 million people across the country.

“On getting the initial symptoms of coronavirus, I got the test done and report has come positive. My health is fine, but I am being admitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors,” tweeted in Hindi on Sunday.

He requested all, who have come in contact with him in the last few days to isolate themselves and get inquiry done.

Media reports, however, quoting sources said that Amit, 55, was admitted to Medanta hospital, located in Haryana’s Gurugram near Delhi.

A team of doctors of All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) led by its director Randeep Guleria is likely to visit Medanta Hospital this evening to oversee Shah’s treatment.

Several ministers and political leaders including defence minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president JP Nadda and former president of Congress Rahul Gandhi today in separate tweet messages wished speedy recovery of Amit Shah.

The total coronavirus cases surged to 17,50,723, while the death toll climbed to 37,364 with 853 people succumbing to the disease in a day, the data updated at 8 am showed.
