Microsoft has provided support for Windows XP for the past 12 years. But from 08 April 2014, it discontinues providing technical supports to its users. Microsoft announced the news on its website.

With technical assistance for Windows XP no longer available, the automatic updates of Microsoft Security Essentials that protect the PC from viral attacks cannot be downloaded.

But if you already have Microsoft Security Essentials installed in your computer, you will continue receiving anti-malware signature updates until July 2015. It will not, however, be so strong as to ensure your PC security.

If you continue to use Windows XP after support ends, your computer will still work but it might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses.

Although there are some ways to still get protection, they are difficult and costly. Microsoft therefore recommends switching to the latest version of Windows.
