All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan returned home without playing Bangladesh’s virtual semi-final contest against Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup as his finger injury deteriorated but he did not realise the condition was so bad.

The star cricketer had to undergo surgery as his injured finger swelled up a lot and the pain was insufferable, he said in his Facebook post on Friday.

“I couldn’t imagine that I would have to face such a bad situation. I got admitted at a hospital and underwent surgery immediately after returning home as my finger was inflamed and I was in acute pain. Around 60-70ml pus was removed from the finger,” the status read.

He, however, needs another surgery as soon as possible to fully recover from the injury, he added.

Shakib sustained the injury while fielding in the final of a tri-nation series in Dhaka in January. He was included in the Nidahas Trophy 2018 squad though he hadn’t recovered from the injury fully.

He also travelled to West Indies with the injury and played a full series of Tests, ODIs and T20 matches there and also played three matches of the ongoing Asia Cup against India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
