Shakib Al Hasan announces retirement from Test, T20
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has announced his retirement from Test and Twenty 20 cricket.
The ace all-rounder came up with the announcement in a press conference today, Thursday, ahead of the Kanpur Test against India.
However, he will retire after the Test series against South Africa at home in October. He played his last T20 match at the last T20I World Cup, he added.
Speaking on his plan about ODI cricket, Shakib said he expects to play until the next Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
In reply to a question about his plan on playing the home series against South Africa, Shakib said, ‘Look, I am available for the series. Due to the situation existing in the country, everything does not depend on me. I’ve discussed the matter with BCB. I shared my plans with them. I feel this series and the home series will be my last series, especially in Test cricket.’
Shakib shared his thought at the press conference in Kanpur today ahead of Bangladesh's second and final Test of their ongoing India tour tomorrow.
Asked if he announces retirement out of any grudge, Shakib said he thinks it’s the best time to call it a day and give newcomers chance to prove their skill.
