A total of 35 matches have been decided by penalty shootouts across 11 World Cup tournaments between 1982 and 2022.

Argentina has participated in the highest number of shootouts, recording six wins and one loss.

During the 2022 tournament in Qatar, the team secured two victories by penalty, defeating the Netherlands in the Quarter-finals and France in the Final.
