Quota will not deprive general students in new college policy

The government has finalised the education policy for admission to higher secondary schools in the 2018-19 session, with 100 per cent seats for general students.

Those applying under various quotas will be given admission to additional seats. outside of the regular seats filled up general students.

The education policy for Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) admission was finalised at a meeting of the education ministry presided over by Md Sohrab Hossain, secretary of secondary and higher education division.

There is 11 per cent quota for admission at the HSC level, with 5 per cent for children and grandchildren of freedom fighters, 3 per cent for students from outside the districts sadar, 2 per cent for offspring of employees of education ministry departments and teachers at HSC level, 0.5 per cent for Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) and 0.5 for expatriates.

According to the education policy, a student will be allowed to apply to a minimum of 5 colleges and maximum 10.

The students can apply online or through SMS. The applications will start on 13 May and will close on 24 May, the policy reads.

As per the new policy, the results of the HSC level admission will be published on 10 June.

The admission activities will continue between 27 June and 30 June as the classes will start on 1 July every year.

However, the results of SSC and equivalent examinations will be published on 6 May.
