Jessia Islam, crowned Miss World Bangladesh 2017 recently, will represent Bangladesh at the Miss World 2017, the 67th edition of the pageant, at Sanya in China on 18 November.

At first, Jannatul Nayeem was controversially named the winner from Bangladesh on 29 September.

However, the organisers stripped Jannatul of her title on fraud charges and Jessia Islam was crowned the new winner on 4 October.

In a conversation with Prothom Alo, Jessia shared her feeling of winning the crown, dreams, and future plans.

You have won the title of Miss World Bangladesh. How do you feel?

I'm elated that I have won the title in the end. Everybody, including the judges, supported me a lot. But, the crown has increased my responsibilities. I'll work hard now.

Since my childhood, I had a dream of seeing myself as an icon. I have now got the platform through this win. Now, I just want to look forward so that I can bring something home from China.

How was the journey of Miss World Bangladesh?

Excellent. This is the biggest achievement I have ever had in my life. I just can't describe my feeling in words.

Who inspired you the most?

I received love from many. But, my mother was the biggest inspiration.

How have you started the journey of Miss World Bangladesh?

I had no plans for the Miss World Bangladesh contest. Rather, I was grooming myself for this year's Lux-Channel i Superstar. When I heard about Miss World Bangladesh, I got registered for the contest.

Have you ever thought of winning the title?

I was confident but couldn't think of winning the crown. No one of my country could win the Miss World. I'll try (to win the final of the Miss World).

Whom do you consider your idol?

I like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra very much. Stephanie del Valle who won the Miss World 2016 title is also on my favourites' list.

What was your reaction when you were announced first runner-up?

I felt bad but couldn't imagine such a surprise was waiting for me.

Tell us about your education.

I'm an A Level student at South Point School.

Your family?

I'm a girl from Old Dhaka. We're a brother and a sister. I'm the youngest one in my family.

Whom do you like most in Bangladesh's showbiz arena?

It's a difficult question. There are many stars, especially Suborna Mustafa.
