Six-day film festival starts at DU

A six-day film festival began at the Teacher-Student centre (TSC) auditorium of Dhaka University on Monday.

Dhaka university film society (DUFS) organised the event marking the International Mother Language Day.

The 17th edition of the festival, titled “Amar Bhasar Chalachitra” featuring 19 Bangladeshi films began with the screening of Mostofa Sarwar Farooki directed “Doob”, reports UNB.

Former vice-chancellor of the university and moderator of the club AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the festival.

Nine classic Bengali films and 10 contemporary films will be screened at the festival while DUFS will honour a filmmaker with Hiralal Sen Padak (medal) for the second time.

Five Bangladeshi films “Haldaa”, “Bhubhan Majhi”, “Khacha”, “Gohin Baluchar” and “Rina Brown” will compete for the award.

DUFS has been organising the annual film festival with the slogan “Sustha Chalachitra, Sustha Darshak” since its inception in 2000 to promote Bangla films and help change the taste of audiences and bring out more talented filmmakers.
