Noted writer, poet and columnist Farhad Mazhar has been admitted to the capital’s Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital after a Dhaka court allowed him to go home.
Earlier in the afternoon, Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Ahsan Habib on Tuesday recorded his deposition under Section 164 when the police produced him before the court after rescuing him from Jessore on Monday night.
Farhad Mazhar, who has long been vocal for ensuring freedom of expression in the country, was reportedly abducted from his Adabar residence early on Monday morning.
The court permitted him to return home on his own, with a Tk 10,000 undertaking.
Farhad Mazhar left the court premises for home around 5:52pm. Newsmen wanted to talk to him but he showed no interest in doing so.
Farhad’s wife Farida Akhtar said his husband is unwell without giving the details of his illness. She said he is staying in a cabin of the hospital.
Many of his friends and well-wishers visited the hospital to see him.
An on-duty doctor said Farhad Mazhar has been admitted under a professor of the medicine department for medical tests.
He said they know his health condition only after conducting the tests.
