Egg is the cheapest among the food items that provide animal proteins. Everyone needs to eat at least one egg every day to keep oneself healthy.
The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, however, advised that everyone should take two eggs a day. Eggs play a vital role in checking overweight and dispelling diseases.
Professor of poultry science department in Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) Md Elias Hossain said this while presenting his keynote in a seminar organised at the university on Tuesday marking the World Egg Day.
The World Egg Day was on 12 October but the poultry science department organised a colourful procession and seminar on Tuesday as the campus was on vacation that time.
The seminar was held at Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin auditorium with the department’s head professor Musabbir Ahammed in the chair.
BAU acting vice chancellor Md Solaiman Ali Fakir was present as chief guest while Animal Husbandry faculty dean Md Nurul Islam attended as special guest.
Vietnam was the first country to mark the World Egg Day in 1996 aiming to create awareness among people about the nutrition value of egg. Bangladesh has been observing the day since 2014.
