‘I’m virtually confined to my village home’: Moudud

BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed on Tuesday alleged that he could not go out as he was virtually confined to his village home in Noakhali.
“I've been virtually confined to my house here since 16 August. Law enforcers guard around my house throughout the day so that I cannot go out,” Moudud told Prothom Alo over phone on Tuesday.
However, the BNP leader along with several leaders and activists had gone out early Tuesday before the policemen reached his house.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Moudud Ahmed visited some areas of his constituency in Noakhali.
Moudud, also a former vice president and law minister, went to Norottompur area of Kabirhat upazila around 11:00am to offer Fateha at the graves of ‘Chhonkholar Dorbesh Hujur’ and upazila former BNP leader and union parishad (council) chairman Nizamuddin.
Some local leaders of ruling Awami League and its associate bodies there obstructed and hurled abusive words languages at him, Moudud alleged adding that he left the place for Companiganj after finishing Fateha.
Kabirhat municipality BNP president Mustafizur Rahman alleged the AL men also beat up BNP leaders and activists.
Local BNP leaders Abul Rashed, Noor Alam Chwodhury and Hafiz Uddin were injured and they received treatment at a local hospital, Mustafizur claimed.
Kabirhat upazila AL president Nurul Amin denied the allegation outright.
Kabirhat upazila police station officer-in-charge Mirza Mohammad Hasan said the BNP men carried out attacks on Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders and activists who were heading to upazila sadar to attend a programme to mark the 21 August grenade attack on an AL rally in Dhaka. The police reached there and brought the situation under control.
The police official claimed there was no incident of obstructing Moudud when he was going to offer Fateha at graves.
