Ferdous makes mistake, but India's reaction too strong: FM
Foreign minister AK Abdul Momen has termed the participation of Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed as a campaigner for the Trinamool Congress in India’s Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal as 'unfortunate'.
“He participated in the election campaign for his friend, but this is an unfortunate incident,” the foreign minister said while talking to newsmen before a function at a city hotel on Wednesday evening.
The minister, however, found the reaction from India as too strong. “The Indians reacted so strongly, I thought this was too much.”
India has not informed the Bangladesh government anything about this, Momen added.
The 45-year-old actor returned home on Tuesday after his visa was revoked, as he had violated his visa conditions.
Ferdous has also regretted his participation in the campaign and sought apology for what he termed his “unintentional mistake.”
The home ministry of India blacklisted actor Ferdous Ahmed for violating his visa conditions by campaigning for the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal and sent him back on Tuesday.
Earlier on the day, the Deputy High Commission for Bangladesh in Kolkata has asked him not to take part in the election campaign in India and return to his country.
