Acting editor of the now-defunct Bengali daily Amar Desh Mahmudur Rahman was freed on bail on Wednesday, three and a half years into his arrest in a case connected with the Skype scandal of December 2012.

Jailer Md Nashir Ahmed told the Prothom Alo that Mahmudur Rahman was released around 1:00pm Wednesday.

Amar Desh acting editor, a former energy adviser of BNP-Jamaat government, has been incarcerated in connection with other cases, since he was arrested from his Karwan Bazar office on 11 April 2013.

The arrest came four months after Mahmudur was sued, in line with a High Court directive, for publishing reports on a Skype conversation between former International Crimes Tribunal, Bangladesh (ICT,B) chairman justice Md Nizamul Huq and an expatriate Bangladeshi legal expert, Ahmed Ziauddin, over the trial of Jamaat leaders in the ICT,B.
