PM visits Zafar Iqbal at CMH

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka to see Zafar Iqbal who was injured in a knife attack on the campus of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet, reports UNB.

She went to the CMH around 12:30pm and spent almost an hour there, PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim told newsmen.

He said the prime minister talked to physicians and asked about the present condition of Zafar Iqbal, a SUST teacher and renowned fiction writer. He is now undergoing treatment at the CMH.

Zafar Iqbal’s wife professor Yesmeen Huq and his daughter Yeashim Iqbal were also present.

The prime minister asked the authorities concerned to do whatever needed for the treatment of professor Zafar Iqbal, the PM’s press secretary said.

On Saturday, a young man swooped on Zafar Iqbal, a teacher of computer science and engineering department of the university, around 5:40pm as he was sitting on the stage of a celebration programme, ‘Robo-5,’ of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department at Mukta Mancha.

The attacker stabbed him in the back of his head, leaving him seriously injured.

He was then taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, and then airlifted to the CMH in Dhaka at the instruction of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
