Fearing further attack on western nationals, the United Kingdom on Friday updated its travel alert for its citizens in Bangladesh, advising them not to travel the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
The travel alert was issued by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in its travel advice updated on Friday.
The advice recommends British citizens in Bangladesh to remain vigilant and take appropriate security precautions.
“Take particular care where there are large gatherings, political offices and rallies,” it added.
The summarised travel advice feared further attacks targeting westerners may occur.
“There’s a high threat from terrorism. Further attacks targeting westerners may occur and could be indiscriminate,” the travel advisory mentioned.
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has claimed responsibility for the recent murders of two foreign nationals, the advisory claimed.
It further mentioned, "You should be particularly vigilant, consider your movements carefully and take appropriate security precautions. Keep a low profile in all public spaces and limit your attendance at events where westerners may gather, for example in hotels or conference centres."
On the evening of 28 September, an Italian citizen was shot and killed at Gulshan diplomatic zone in Dhaka.
On the morning of 3 October, a Japanese citizen was shot and killed in Rangpur district, in Northern Bangladesh. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has claimed responsibility for both murders, it said.
The advisory said there is considered to be a heightened threat of terrorist attack globally against UK interests and British nationals, from groups or individuals motivated by the conflict in Iraq and Syria. "You should be vigilant at this time."
Earlier, the Bangladesh government said it arranged additional security measures for foreign nationals in the country.

However, some embassies in Dhaka kept postponing their events in city and other parts of the country.
