Writ seeks apprehension of Tonu’s killers in 24 hrs

A writ petition was filed with the High Court on Sunday seeking its directive on the government to arrest the killers of Sohagi Jahan Tonu within 24 hours.
Eunus Ali Akond, a Supreme Court lawyer, moved the HC with the writ petition seeking its order on the government to arrest the culprits and form a judicial probe body to investigate the murder incident, reports UNB.
Seven government officials, including the cabinet secretary, home secretary, inspector general of police and area commander of Comilla Mainamati Cantonment, have been made respondents to the writ.
An HC bench comprising Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice AKM Shahidul Haq may take the petition for hearing tomorrow, Eunus told UNB.
Sohagi Jahan Tonu, 19, a second year history student of Comilla Victoria College, and a member of Victoria College Theatre, went missing on March 20, hours after she had gone out of her house at Comilla Mainamati Cantonment for private tuition.
Later, Tonu’s father Yaar Hossain found his daughter lying senseless with severe injuries in her body in a bush adjacent to their house.
She was then whisked off to Combined Military Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
On 29 March, the Tonu murder case was shifted to the CID to expedite its probe.
A six-member probe committee, headed by Dhaka senior police super Abdul Kahhar Akand, was formed to assist the investigation on the following day.
A Comilla CID team visited three places, including the murder spot, in Mainamati Cantonment area on Friday.
