Bangladesh reports 34 Covid deaths, 1,988 new cases

The number of detected novel coronavirus cases in Bangladesh, according to the government, on Wednesday rose to 804,293 as 1,988 more cases were reported, after testing 20,259 samples, including rapid antigen tests, in the last 24 hours.

During that time 34 Covid-19 patients died, raising the total deaths in the country to 12,694, said a press release of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) wednesday.

The rate of detection in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am was 9.81 per cent, while the overall rate of detection of infected cases in Bangladesh as of Wednesday stands at 13.44 per cent.

The health directorate today said a total of 1,914 people recovered from the highly infectious disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of total recovery to 744,065.

The overall rate of people recovered as of today stands at 92.51 per cent while the rate of death is 1.58 per cent, it added.

Of the people died in the last 24 hours, 21 were males and 13 females. Of the total deaths so far, 9,160 were males (72.16 per cent) and 3,534 females (27.84 per cent).

Among the 34 patients died in the last 24 hours, 28 breathed their last at different hospitals while six at home.

Among the Covid-19 patients died in that time, 11 were in Dhaka division, five each in Chattogram, Rajshahi and Khulna, two in Barishal, and three each in Sylhet and Rangpur divisions.

Among the patients died in Bangladesh so far, 7,198 were in Dhaka, 2,425 in Chattogram, 696 in Rajshahi, 797 in Khulna, 386 in Barisal, 464 in Sylhet, 470 in Rangpur, and 258 in Mymensingh division, the DGHS said.

A total of 20, 259 samples were collected in the last 24 hours. As of Wednesday, the number of samples tested in Bangladesh stands at 5,986,022.

Bangladesh detected its first coronavirus patient on 8 March last year and recorded its first death in the disease on 18 March that year.
