COVID-19 cases cross 1,000 in Cumilla
The number of COVID-19 cases in Cumilla district has crossed 1000. On Monday, 49 new cases were detected, bringing the total number of cases in the district up to 1,020.
The district coronavirus focal person and Cumilla deputy civil surgeon Md Shahadat Hossain confirmed the figure.
Of the 49 new cases, 12 were in Cumilla city corporation area, 13 in Choddogram, nine in Burichang, five each in Adarsha Sadar and Nangalkot upazilas, three in Muradnagar and one each in Meghna and Brahmapara upazilas.
Meanwhile, three coronavirus patients recovered in Adarsha Sadar upazila and one in Meghna upazila. No deaths were reported on Monday.
There are over 1,000 cases in the district. Among eight upazilas, five are geographically on one side and three upazilas, Laksham, Nangolkot and Choddogram are adjoining. These upazilas are connected to the district town that is why there has been rapid community transmission of the virus. Under these circumstances, it is vital for everyone to strictly maintain the health regulations.
Medical officer of the district civil surgeon’s office Md Enamul Huq said, the first coronavirus cases in Cumilla were detected on 9 April in the village Ziapur of Mainmati union in Burichang upazila. Two children had been infected. Then over the month till 10 May, 151 were infected. Over the past 22 days, the number of patients has been increasing rapidly. A total of 142 persons in the district recovered from the virus and 28 died.
Of the 17 upazilas in the district, 841 cases have been detected in the city corporation area and 9 upazilas. Till Monday the highest number of cases, 158, was confirmed in Debidar, and the next highest was in Cumilla city corporation area, at 146. As many as 144 cases were detected in Muradnagar, 102 in Chandina, 68 in Laksham, 65 in Nangolkot, 61 in Burichang, 50 in Adarsha Sadar and 47 in Choddogram.
The district civil surgeon Md Niatuzzaman said there are over 1000 cases in the district.
