Metro rail to open for public 16 December next year

The long-desired metro rail will go for commercial operation on 16 December, 2022, as a performance test on the viaduct from Uttara to Agargaon station began Sunday, reports BSS.

"We hope that the much-awaited metro train service will be opened from Uttara to Agargaon by 16 December next year," managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) MAN Siddique told journalists after starting the performance test at Agargaon station in the city.

He said that metro rail will start commercial operation through the entire route in December, 2023.

Earlier, the metro train went for a performance test on a viaduct from Uattar to Pallabi station on 29 August last and from Uttara to Mirpur 10 on 29 November.

According to project details, a total of the 21.26-kilometre metro-rail project is being constructed in eight packages and the overall progress of construction work from Uttara to Motijheel-Kamalapur Railway stands at 72.99 per cent now, while 89.88 per cent of civil work between Uttara and Agargaon has been done.

The managing director expected that the construction of the viaduct to Doel Chattar will be completed within this month, while the viaduct to Motijheel will be finished by January 2022.

Constructions of all the stations will be completed within April next year as the construction work is going on in full swing, he added.
