Coronavirus suspect dies in Kushtia

A man has died after suffering from coronavirus symptoms for three days in Kushtia on Monday.

Around 40 years old, he was an autorickshaw driver living in Chaurahas area in the district.

The victim had developed a cough from Friday and it turned worse along with further respiratory complications. The breathing difficulties steadily worsened and turned critical and he fell unconscious, Tapas Kumar Sarkar, resident medical officer (RMO) of Kushtia General Hospital, quoted the family of the deceased.

The patient was brought in the emergency department of the hospital around 7:00am Monday and was found already dead, he added.

Samples from the victim’s body were being collected as this might be a coronavirus case, the RMO said.

Though family of the deceased did not come into contact with any overseas returnees, he might have contracted the virus from a passenger, Tapas added saying, we will hand the body over to the civil surgeon after the sample collection.

Several persons of from the emergency department have already been sent into quarantine, he said.

The incident was confirmed by HM Anwarul Islam, civil surgeon of Kushtia, who said the body of the deceased would be buried in accordance to the guidelines of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).

Upazila nirbahi officer Zubaer Hossain Chowdhury has been sent along with police to the house of the deceased, said deputy commissioner Aslam Hossain and added that the house would be under lockdown until the diagnosis report appears.
