Upazila health complex in Barishal put under lockdown

The Local administration on Wednesday night put Gournadi upazila health complex and 25 houses in Batajor Bandar in Barishal under lockdown after a nurse tested positive for coronavirus, reports UNB.

Upazila administration issued a notice signed by Upazila nirbahi officer Israt Jahan in this regard.

The notice said the upazila health complex and 25 houses in Batajor Bandar area were under lockdown as a senior nurse of the hospital was diagnosed with coronavirus.

The area is overpopulated, said UNO Israt Jahan adding that legal action will be taken if anyone violates the lockdown directives.

Bangladesh Doctors Foundation (BDF), a forum of physicians, said 375 nurses of government and private hospitals were infected with coronavirus as of Wednesday.

Meanwhile, 612 physicians were infected while treating patients, said BDF.

The country reported its highest daily new coronavirus cases on Wednesday with the detection of 790 patients.

Even though the government extended general holidays until 16 May, it has eased the restrictions on movement by allowing shopping malls, shops, and markets to operate.

The government also allowed businessmen to keep shops and shopping malls open for six hours from 10:00am to 4:00pm every day from 10 May, after maintaining health guidelines during the general holidays.
