At least four teachers were injured in a scuffle between two factions of pro-Awami League teachers at Jahangirnagar University on Tuesday.

The scuffle broke out in Bishmail area of the campus in the morning as the teachers loyal to former vice chancellor Sharif Enamul Kabir tried to lock the transport depot in a bid to enforce a strike.

The faction has waged a movement against present VC Farzana Islam, alleging that she had violated university rules over the appointment of provosts at nine residential halls.

The agitating teachers at a press briefing later on Tuesday noon threatened to launch a tougher agitation programme if their demands are not met by 4:00pm.

VC Farzana Islam claimed she appointed new provosts as the tenure of the former ones had expired.

"We are yet to know who were responsible for the scuffle. We would take measures after an investigation," she said.

Meanwhile, teachers loyal to the present VC formed a human chain in front of the JU administration building around 11:00am.
