BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir left Dhaka early Wednesday for New York to 'meet UN secretary general Antonio Guterres', reports UNB.

Fakhrul along with party executive committee member Tabith Awal left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for the USA in a flight of Emirates Airlines around 1:50am, a BNP standing committee member told UNB wishing anonymity.

The BNP leader claimed that Fakhrul went to meet UN secretary general Antonio Guterres at his invitation to discuss "Bangladesh's political situation and issues relating to Bangladesh's next general election".

Another BNP standing committee member said the UN secretary general recently invited Fakhrul to meet him in the UN headquarters. "Our standing committee members also discussed the matter on Tuesday."
