JaPa MP wonders no one to prevent road accidents!

Jatiya Party MP Mujibul Haque Chunnu on Tuesday wanted to know in parliament when prime minister Sheikh Hasina's directives on road safety will be implemented to prevent road accidents in the country, reports UNB.

He also demanded a statement from road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader describing government's measures taken so far to prevent road accidents.

In the wake of deaths in frequent road accidents, prime minister Sheikh Hasina last year issued directives, including drive-time limitations for drivers of long-route vehicles, to prevent accidents and casualties.

Mentioning growing road accidents in the country, Chunnu said it seems that there is no one to look into the matter. "It has created panic among the people."

Taking floor on the point of order, the JaPa MP recalled the road safety movement by students across the country and mentioned that prime minister Sheikh Hasina gave a five-point directive to prevent the road accidents in the country.

He wanted to know from the minister what steps have been taken based on the prime minister's directives. "Will you implement those directives? If yes, by when?"

Chunnu also talked about fake licence holders and owners of vehicles saying those who own the vehicles are somehow connected with the implementation of laws. "That's why necessary steps are not being taken in this area."

A 10-year-old girl was run over by a microbus in the city's Uttara area when she was on her way to school on Wednesday morning, killing her.

The deceased is Faija Tahsina Shuchi, 10, daughter of Ittefaq's senior journalist Faijul Islam.
