An 18-year-old teenager was killed in what police called a gunfight in Gopibagh Railgate in the capital early Tuesday.

According to UNB, the deceased was Shanto, 18.

Being informed that a gang of people was taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, police conducted a drive there around 11:30pm Monday, said sub-inspector Mofiz Uddin of Wari police station.

When the team reached there, the gang swooped on the law enforcers, prompting them to fire back that triggered the gunfight, reports UNB quoting police.

The gunfight left Shanto injured with bullet while two policemen sustained injuries, it adds.

Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died around 7:00am.

Besides, police also arrested another person from the spot.

Prothom Alo, however, could not verify the law enforcement’s version of the incident independently as no version of it was available immediately either from any witness or from any member of the victim’s family.
