A man, suspected of being involved in the murder of an eight-year-old girl, was killed in an alleged gunfight in Kholadanga area of Jashore early Wednesday, reports UNB.

Police identified the deceased as Shamim, 30, a resident of the area.

Kotwali police station's in-charge Apurba Hasan said they sent a team to Kholadanga around 3:00am after being tipped off that two gangs of drug traders were engaged in a gunfight.

"The police team came under fire as soon as it reached the spot," the OC said.

Police also claimed to have recovered a shutter gun and 50 yaba pills.

Shamim was a suspect in the murder of schoolgirl Trisha. Her body was found in a sack in a ditch behind the house of a neighbour at Dharmatala on Monday evening, a day after she went missing.

Police said they suspect the child was raped before she was killed.

A case was filed in this connection.

The law enforcement’s version of the event was, however, not verified independently as no version of that incident was available immediately either from any witnesses or from any members of the suspect’s family.
