2 killed in police ‘gunfight’

Two persons were killed in what police called a gunfight at Lemshikhali Darbar Ghat in Kutubdia upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Friday.

According to news agency UNB, the law enforcers recognised them as suspected robbers but could not identify details about their identity immediately.

Didarul Ferdous, officer-in-charge of Kutubdia police station, said acting on information that two groups of robbers were exchanging bullet, a team of police went to the spot around 3:30am.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on police, prompting them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.

Later, police rescued two people injured with bullets and took them to a local hospital where doctors declared them dead.

Two policemen were injured during the gunfight.

Police recovered one LG gun and two cartridges from the spot.
