Chhatra League leader arrested with yaba

Police arrested a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader with contraband yaba pills from Dorgram, in Manikganj's Saturia upazila on Monday.

BCL is the student wing of ruling Awami League.

The arrested, Aminul Islam, is convener of Dorgram Union Chhatra League Unit of the village Tebaria village in the upazila.

Md Motiar Rahman, officer-in-charge of Saturia police station, said Aminul had been selling and taking drugs for long and a video all this had spread on Facebook.

When the matter was brought to the attention of Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, deputy inspector general of police (Dhaka Range), he directed Rifat Rahman Shamim, superintendent of Manikganj police, to investigate.

The police identified three Chhatra League leaders after examining the video and arrested the main accused Aminul with five yaba pills.

Saturia upazila Chhatra League general secretary Golam Maula said necessary measures would be taken if any leader gets involved the in drug trade.

Aminul would be removed from the party if he was found to be involved in this connection, he added.
